Ciu Ciu – Bacchus Rosso ’18 – Marche, Italy
Sangiovese, Montepulciano
Pronounced “choo-choo”, this family-owned winery is named in honour of a relative who used to work on the railways. Based in the Castelli di Jesi DOCG of Le Marche, Ciu Ciu was set up in the 1970s by Nataliono and Anna Bartolomei and is today run by their sons Massimiliano and Walter.
The grapes are farmed organically and the winemaker works hard to reduce the amount of intervention in the winery. The wine is designed to be an easy-to-drink, fruity expression of Sangiovese and Montepulciano. To do so they ferment the wine in stainless steel to protect the wine from oxygen and retain the grape’s naturally fresh flavours.
Tasting notes : Strawberry, red cherry, liquorice. Juicy with moderate, soft tannin.
Food pairing : An easy, uncomplicated wine that will drink happily with most foods.
